Explore
Explore presents clearly labelled groups such as recent posts, recently updated projects and guides, reference objects, public images, communities and people.
The ordering is stated on the page—recent, alphabetical or reference ordering—so you can understand why something is being shown.
Global search
Search from the top bar or Explore. Results are grouped by type so a designation like M31 can lead you to the canonical object as well as related posts, images, projects or guides where visible.
Filter to People, Posts, Objects, Projects, Images, Equipment, Communities, Guides or Observing Sites.
Use date, author, community, object, project, equipment, image and observing-site filters where relevant.
Search a #hashtag directly when you know the descriptive tag you want.
Sorting options remain explicit, such as newest, oldest, alphabetical, discussed or helpful where supported.
Privacy-aware results
Search never grants extra access. Filters only narrow records you are already permitted to discover, so a private record does not become public simply because its text matches a query.
Save useful things
Use Save controls on supported content to keep a personal reference list. Saved items can be grouped into your own collections so you can build sets such as “processing references”, “winter targets” or “equipment research”.
Saving is separate from sharing: organising something for yourself does not republish it to other members.
Type-ahead, recent and saved searches
The top search box can show permission-aware suggestions while you type. The full Search page remembers recent searches and can save a named search with its current filters so you can rerun useful research later.
Active advanced filters are shown as removable chips, making it easier to understand exactly why a result set is narrow.
Starter Packs and contextual discovery
Astronomy Starter Packs are inspect-first collections that can point newcomers toward relevant people, Communities and Guides for themes such as beginner astrophotography, visual observing, deep-sky imaging or science/spectroscopy.
Starter Packs never bulk-follow or auto-join anything. People discovery can also explain shared context such as interests, disciplines, Communities or equipment without turning that information into a popularity score.

On larger screens, hovering or keyboard-focusing supported links can show a quick preview for members, Objects, Communities, Projects or equipment. This helps you decide whether to open a destination without repeatedly leaving your current page.
