Communities are shared spaces for astronomy groups such as general-interest groups, local clubs, societies, observatories, manufacturers, education groups and project teams.
Find the right community
Browse Communities and open a community page to understand what it is for before joining. Public/request/invite/hidden membership models allow different groups to choose the level of openness that fits them.
A local club can use location information while a project team may have no geographic focus at all.
Joining and invitations
If the community allows direct joining, use Join. Request-based communities let you ask to become a member, while invite-based communities can send an invitation you respond to from your Communities page.
You can leave a community when you no longer want to participate, subject to any ownership responsibilities shown to you by the interface.
Community feed and announcements
The community feed is for conversation that belongs specifically to that group. Posts and comments stay attached to the community context rather than becoming indistinguishable from the global feed.
Announcements provide a clearer space for important community information when the community publishes them.
Events, guides, projects and resources
Community pages can connect to events, Guides, projects, shared media/galleries, equipment/resources and rules. Use the relevant tab/section when you are looking for durable information rather than searching through old discussion posts.
Community notifications
Use the community’s notification controls to choose how much activity you want to hear about. This lets you remain a member of an active group without every update needing the same level of attention.
Official Society identity and verification
A Community created as an Official Society / Organisation is not automatically verified. Until Astro Corner staff complete a verification review, the Community is clearly labelled as an unverified official society/organisation.
A verified badge means Astro Corner has reviewed the organisation identity according to the current verification process. It is not a guarantee about every statement, event or transaction associated with that Community.
If a Community is frozen or closed
A temporarily frozen Community remains readable but new Community activity or management changes may be paused while Astro Corner reviews the space. The Community page explains the current state.
A closed Community is unavailable through normal member use. These platform moderation states are separate from a member choosing to leave the Community.
