Record an observation
Choose the observation type and record what you observed. Add the date/time, location, equipment or rig, linked celestial objects and the notes/results that will still make sense when you read the entry years later.
Observation types can cover more than visual work, including imaging and other astronomy activities supported by the form.
Link objects and coordinates
Link canonical celestial objects whenever possible so the observation appears in the wider object context. If the target is not represented yet, the form can preserve coordinate information for a new/unlisted target where offered.
Create an observing session
A session records the shared context for a block of observing: when and where it happened, what the sky was like and other notes you may want later.
Weather/sky information saved with the historical record is valuable because a live forecast will naturally change after the night has passed.
Participants and credits
Sessions can record other people who took part, with roles such as observer, imager, host or mentor where available. This helps collaborative nights remain part of everyone’s astronomy story without pretending a single person did all of the work.
Journal and social sharing
When an observation deserves a narrative entry, use the optional Journal connection instead of copying the same information by hand. You can also share suitable records into the social feed when you want discussion around them.
Editing/correcting an observation preserves revision history so the record can improve without losing track of significant past wording.
